Rating the YNT: Top 5 women's midfielders
We’ve zeroed in on the youth national team goalkeepers knocking on the USWNT door. We’ve talked about the defenders. Now it’s time to hone in the top five midfielders currently in the USYNT pool with major national team aspirations.
With respect to the other positions, this one is probably the most loaded of them all. The U.S. currently has a tremendous amount of talent working its way down the pipeline, the majority of it concentrated down the middle either at the No. 6 (holding) or No. 8 (box-to-box) positions. The men don’t have a monopoly on struggles to develop No. 10s, you know.

In any case, this is my list of the top five women’s midfielders currently in the USYNT pool based on both current ability and future prospects. Keep in mind the only criteria are age (U23 eligible and under) and no competitive USWNT caps yet. And on that note, let’s dive in.
